Equipment

  • Frying pan or skillet
  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • spatula
  • Plate or tray for dredging

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 block tofu
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (panko)
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • huile (for frying)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu block into slices of desired thickness. Pat the tofu slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  • Coat the Tofu: Set up three shallow bowls for dredging: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs and sesame seeds. Dredge each tofu slice first in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat evenly with the breadcrumb-sesame mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  • Cook the Tofu: Heat oil in a frying pan or skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the coated tofu slices in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat if necessary to prevent burning.
  • Serve: Remove the tofu from the pan and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve immediately with a side of soy sauce for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

  • Use a neutral-flavored oil with a high smoke point, such as vegetable or peanut oil, for frying.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before adding the tofu slices to achieve a crispy texture.
  • You can customize the coating mixture by adding your favorite herbs and spices for extra flavor.
  • Serve the sesame crusted tofu as a delicious appetizer or main dish alongside steamed vegetables and rice for a complete meal.
