Equipment

  • 2 small mixing bowl
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 stand mixer with dough hook
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 wire rack

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 tbsp butter (soften)
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg

Instructions
 

  • Active the yeast: in a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture, mix and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Mix the dough: in a large mixing bowl, combine the activated yeast mixture, soften butter, flour, egg and salt. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic. This can be done by hand or with a stand mixer using the dough hook attachment.
  • First rise: place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place (75°F to 78°F) for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • Divide and shape: punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into small portions, shaping each into a round ball.
  • Second rise: place the mini dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for an additional 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven: preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Brush with egg wash: beat the egg and brush it over the risen mini buns. This gives them a beautiful golden finish when baked.
  • Top with sesame seeds (optional): sprinkle sesame seeds over the egg-washed mini buns for added flavor and a delightful crunch.
  • Bake: bake the mini burger buns in the preheated oven for 7-10 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
  • Cool and serve: allow the mini burger buns to cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, slice them in half and fill them with your favorite mini burger creations.

Notes

These mini buns can be made ahead and frozen for future use. Just thaw and warm in the oven when needed.
