Equipment

  • 1 pizza pan or baking sheet
  • 1 Rolling Pin (if making homemade Pizza Dough)
  • 1 Pizza Peel (or parchment paper)

Ingredients

  • 1 Pizza dough (homemade Pizza Dough or store-bought)
  • ½ cup tomatoes (crushed or sauce)
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: preheat the oven to the highest temperature 475°F or as per your pizza dough instructions.
  • Roll Out the Dough: roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface or parchment paper to your desired thickness. Place the pizza dough on the pizza pan or baking sheet (previously covered with parchment paper).
  • Assemble the Pizza: spread the crushed tomatoes evenly over the dough, leaving a border for the crust. Arrange slices of fresh mozzarella on top of the tomatoes. Sprinkle with dried basil. Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil.
  • Transfer to the Oven: place the baking sheet in the oven.
  • Bake Until Golden: bake the Margherita Pizza until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly, usually around 10 minutes.
  • Finish with Fresh Basil: remove the pizza from the oven and scatter fresh basil leaves on top.

Notes

  • For an authentic touch, use high-quality tomatoes sauce and fresh mozzarella.
  • Be creative with crust thickness—whether you prefer thin and crispy or a slightly thicker, chewier crust.
  • Drizzle with a bit more olive oil or add a sprinkle of Parmesan before serving if desired.
  • Fresh basil should be added after baking to preserve its aromatic flavor.
